Boxing is a sport where vultures pick at the bones of fighters whose best days are behind them and trainer Kevin Cunningham is not one to let a golden opportunity slip by for one of his fighters.
Cunningham says he would like to match his welterweight contender Devon Alexander against a shot 40-year-old Shane Mosley on August 18 in St. Louis, Missouri.
Mosley was brutally pummeled for twelve one-sided rounds by WBC junior middleweight titleholder Saul “Canelo” Alvarez on May 5.
Cunningham quickly dismissed the idea about a possible grudge match between Alexander and newly-crowned WBA welterweight titleholder Paulie Malignaggi.
“Devon would knock the skirt off him,” exclaimed Cunningham.
“We just have to fight the best available guy. The guy with the most recognizable name to the fans,” said Cunningham.
Alexander and Cunningham turned their attention to Mosley because Meldrick Taylor isn’t currently available to fight.
